Kuala Lumpur. ASICS SportStyle unveils the debut of the GEL-KAYANO™ LEGACY sneaker. This shoe’s inception pays tribute to the 30-year milestone of the GEL-KAYANO™ series and the remarkable technological innovations that have shaped it into its current form.

Legacy of Innovation: 30 Years of ASICS Gel™ by Toshikazu Kayano
Toshikazu Kayano, who began crafting footwear at ASICS in the late 1980s, went on to create the GEL-KAYANO™ series in 1993. This trainer, infused with protection-focused technologies inspired by a stag beetle’s armour, continues to define stable running shoes even three decades later. Kayano-san designed the first 13 models in the series before passing the torch in 2008. Kayano reflected, “When I initially crafted the GEL-KAYANO™ series for running, I never envisioned its evolution into 30 distinct models spanning 30 years, including a foray into the sneaker fashion space. It’s thrilling to see performance-driven designs transcend into diverse lifestyle realms.
The ASICS GEL-KAYANO™ LEGACY Collection: A Fusion of Core Colors and Milestone Influences
The ASICS SportStyle design team revisited the 30-year history of the GEL-KAYANO™ series, drawing inspiration from its transformative milestones. Starting with the GEL-KAYANO™ 14 as their foundation, they incorporated vital design elements from eight other iterations. This includes the GEL-KAYANO™ TRAINER, GEL-KAYANO™ 5, GEL-KAYANO™ 6, GEL-KAYANO™ 10, GEL-KAYANO™ 12, GEL-KAYANO™ 18, and GEL-KAYANO™ 20.
Each colourway in the collection draws from the core colours that have defined the GEL-KAYANO™ series since its inception. The first colourway is predominantly white with blue, red, and black undertones. Its asymmetrical colouring highlights the fusion effect and technological features of different GEL-KAYANO™ components. The other colourway pays homage to the series’ use of silver in the mid to late 2000s.
Now available for purchase, the GEL-KAYANO™ LEGACY sneaker can be found on CROSSOVER Malaysia’s online store and at select Atmos stores (KLCC, Sunway Pyramid & Mid Valley) for RM749.
