On a charming afternoon in KL, handmade pasta and espresso aromas filled the air at B.I.G. Publika. Guests weren’t just browsing shelves—they were transported to the sun-drenched markets of Tuscany. To kick off the celebration, the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), in collaboration with The Food Purveyor (TFP), introduced “Make It Authentically, Make It Italian” — an initiative that seamlessly blends heritage, craftsmanship, and the timeless sophistication of Italian cuisine, bringing a taste of Italy to the heart of Malaysia.

The event marked a meaningful collaboration between TFP, the Embassy of Italy in Kuala Lumpur and ITA—offering more than a culinary showcase. It was a love letter to the country’s gastronomic soul.

Authentic Traditions, Freshly Served

The highlight of the event? Italian chef Stefano Criber stirring fresh pasta inside a golden wheel of Parmigiano-Reggiano—an old-world spectacle that delighted modern-day food lovers. From handmade pasta and crisp garden salads to rich Tiramisù, each bite echoed Italy’s uncompromising devotion to quality.

Complimentary illy coffee and creamy Fabbri gelato added a sweet epilogue to the experience. Beyond that, it was more than just a sampling; rather, it was a masterclass in how culture, flavour, and emotion intertwine at the dinner table.

Dr. Angela Donvito, Trade Commissioner of ITA, captured the moment best: “Our culinary heritage and the exceptional quality of Italian products are a great source of pride for all Italians.” Her hope? That Malaysians continue to discover the richness of Italian tradition in every sip and spoonful.

More Than a Meal: A Cultural Mission

Mr. Ivan Tan, Group Executive Director of TFP Retail Sdn Bhd, highlighted a deeper message: “At The Food Purveyor, our philosophy is that food is a powerful link to heritage, tradition, and community.” He explained that the campaign is more than just about imports. It’s about immersion — educating consumers on what truly defines “Made in Italy” beyond the label.

Authentic

The initiative extends across TFP’s premium grocers—Village Grocer, Ben’s Independent Grocer, The Food Merchant and BSC Fine Foods—bringing Italian authenticity directly to the homes and dinner tables of Malaysian families.

From meticulously sourced olive oils to hand-crafted pasta, the campaign highlights the importance of knowing your food’s origin. It also celebrates the stories each ingredient carries. Today, food is more than sustenance — it’s an expression of identity. Initiatives like this prove that heritage can feel both luxurious and part of everyday life. Ultimately, it reinforces how tradition remains relevant in modern culinary culture.

A Celebration of Authentic

In a world obsessed with fast and flashy, Italy reminds us to slow down and savour. “Make It Authentically, Make It Italian” isn’t a trend—it’s a timeless reminder of why authenticity still matters. And in that spirit, Kuala Lumpur has become a little more Italian, one dish at a time.
