Valentine’s Day in Kuala Lumpur: Shangri-La’s Many Ways to Say “I Love You”

A Celebration of Romance with Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur This Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day has long outgrown the predictable bouquet-and-dinner formula. At Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur, the season unfolds instead as a series of considered experiences — some intimate, some indulgent, all designed around the simple act of gathering.

Running across early to mid-February, the hotel’s Valentine’s programme moves fluidly between afternoon tea, heritage Malaysian dining, premium steakhouse glamour and Japanese refinement. The common thread is not extravagance, but intention.

An Afternoon of Gentle Indulgence

At the Lobby Lounge, romance begins in daylight. From 13 to 28 February, Tea for Two, Made with Love offers a quietly elegant pause between 3pm and 6pm — the sort of setting made for long conversations rather than hurried declarations.

The savouries tread a careful line between delicacy and richness: spiced blue swimmer crab with celeriac cornet; salmon lifted by avruga caviar; smoked duck and foie gras quiche that carries depth without heaviness.

Sweets arrive as expressions of restrained drama — raspberry Valrhona chocolate éclairs, rose cherry mousse with hazelnut crunch, strawberry lemon crêpe cake — accompanied by plain and red velvet scones served with raspberry jam and clotted cream.

At RM110 nett per person (RM100 for an additional guest), it is less a spectacle than a setting: understated, composed, and quietly romantic.

A Heritage Dinner for Two

For those who prefer their romance anchored in familiarity, the Lobby Lounge’s four-course Malaysian heritage set (12–14 February, 6:30 pm–10:30 pm) reframes local flavours through a refined lens.

Udang harimau bakar opens the evening with smokiness and spice, followed by sup tulang berempah that leans into warmth and memory. Mains include percik ikan siakap panggang or batang pinang bakar ala Minang — dishes that draw from regional kitchens yet arrive plated with contemporary care.

Priced at RM168 nett per person, the experience is accompanied by soft live music — subtle enough not to interrupt the conversation.

Midnight Manhattan Romance

Across the hotel at Arthur’s Bar & Grill, the tone shifts. On 14 February, the restaurant stages a five-course dinner inspired by late-night New York — low lighting, polished wood, and an atmosphere shaped as much by mood as by menu.

Queen scallop seared in wagyu tallow with oscietra caviar signals the evening’s intent. Wagyu striploin or pan-seared turbot follows, paired optionally with curated wines. Dessert, inevitably chocolate, closes the meal with confident decadence.

At RM230 nett per person (RM420 with wine pairing), this is Valentine’s Dinner celebrated in classic steakhouse language — indulgent, deliberate and romantic.

Precision and Poise at Zipangu

For a different ambience entirely, Zipangu by Nadaman offers Ai no Kiseki — “A Miracle of Love” — a seven-course Japanese set menu from 12 to 14 February.

Chef Kazuo Takizawa’s menu unfolds in careful progression, emphasising balance, texture and seasonality. The dining room’s restrained aesthetic mirrors the cuisine’s philosophy: precision over flourish, technique over theatrics.

Priced at RM399 nett per person, with an optional RM88 nett sake or wine pairing, it is an experience shaped around quiet attentiveness — the kind that lingers long after the final course.

Sweet Gestures to Take Home

Not all expressions of love require a reservation. Lemon Garden 2Go, available from 1 to 14 February, offers a collection of handcrafted cakes, bonbons, macarons and floral arrangements.

Among them: red glaze chocolate mousse cake, strawberry shortcake titled “Forever Love”, and an “I Love You” piñata heart filled with chocolate pralines — a playful departure from the expected.

The offerings are available via Shangri-La Boutique, extending the celebration beyond the dining table.
