Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur Brings Gifts of hope this Christmas

Shangri-La Christmas

Shangri-La’s Kuala Lumpur Celebrates Christmas with a purpose ‘Enchanted Wonders’ — 40 years of light, love, giving and compassion.

A Celebration of Community and Compassion.

As Kuala Lumpur begins to glow with festive sparkle, Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur stands out not only for its grandeur but for its heart. This year’s Enchanted Wonders celebration marks 40 years of the hotel’s most meaningful tradition — the Embrace the Gift of Life charity project, launched in 1985 to fund life-saving medical treatments for children in need.

Over four decades, the initiative has raised over RM6 million, supporting hundreds of children facing severe heart conditions. The 2025 edition transforms the hotel lobby into a beacon of hope, uniting art, compassion, and community under one magnificent Christmas tree

The 40 Years of Cares Charity Tree

At the centre of the celebration stands the “40 Years of Cares” Christmas Charity Tree — a ten-tiered, rotating masterpiece created by award-winning Pastry Artist Chef Wayne Siow and his team. The tree, handcrafted over 600 hours, features six exquisite sugar-paste designs, each telling a story of generosity and resilience.

Every ornament represents a real child whose life hangs in the balance. Donors are invited to sponsor these bespoke pieces at a minimum contribution of RM1,100, while five limited-edition designs are available for RM5,000 each bv. Each sponsorship directly funds vital surgeries for critically ill children, turning decoration into salvation.

Displayed prominently at the hotel lobby from 20 November onwards, the tree offers a 360-degree view of shimmering compassion — a physical manifestation of kindness crafted from sugar, steel, and soul.

The Children Behind the Ornaments

This year, five children’s lives are at the heart of Shangri-La’s mission of giving.

  • Puteri Nur Asyikin, only five months old, was born with a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) requiring urgent surgery costing RM60,000.
  • Chia Yu Hui, aged six, faces multiple congenital heart complications and needs a RM110,000 procedure to sustain her life.
  • Hanna Rose, a two-month-old infant, needs RM80,000 for a pacemaker and corrective surgery.
  • Noah Aidan, just one year and seven months old, requires RM85,000 to treat multiple heart defects.
  • Wafiy Ramadanish, twelve, has lived with a large VSD since birth and urgently needs RM75,000 for closure surgery.

Each ornament on the tree symbolises not just a donation — but a heartbeat, a second chance, a story rewritten through compassion.

A Festive Experience with Purpose

This year’s launch event was a joyful convergence of art, advocacy, and celebration. Guests were treated to a ballet performance, while partners such as Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur and Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur reaffirmed their collaboration in supporting paediatric heart treatments.

Children from the UNHCR Refugee Community and Taman Megah Home for Children with Special Needs were also invited for a special Christmas High Tea at Lemon Garden, marking a day of warmth and inclusion.

For every ornament sponsored, Shangri-La will display the donor’s name or company logo alongside their ornament — a gesture that immortalises each act of kindness in golden light.

More Than a Tree — A Legacy

Through Embrace the Gift of Life, Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur has redefined what festive giving can mean. It’s not about grandeur or glamour; it’s about connection. Each year, the hotel invites the public to “share the gift of life” — and each year, Malaysia answers with open hearts.

As the Enchanted Wonders tree turns beneath the lobby’s golden glow, it does more than illuminate a room — it lights the way for those still waiting for hope. Don’t forget to celebrate your Christmas buffet at Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur. For more information, visit here.
